Packing a computer monitor is trickier than most people think. They’re fragile and awkward, and one wrong move can crack the screen. Spending a few extra minutes wrapping it properly really pays off, especially if you’re hiring a professional moving company. Even the little things, like padding the corners or keeping cables separate, make a huge difference.
It’s easy to assume it will just survive the move, but trust me, it usually doesn’t. Dust, scratches, or a small knock can ruin it completely. Taking your time now avoids a lot of frustration later.
Start with a strong cardboard box that fits the monitor without too much extra space. You want it snug, but not tight. Bubble wrap is a must, and a few pieces of foam or extra cardboard on the corners help. Packing tape will keep everything secure.
Markers or labels are handy for keeping track of which box is which. Packing peanuts or crumpled paper fills in gaps so the monitor doesn’t slide. A screwdriver comes in handy if you need to take off the stand. Having all this ready before you start saves a lot of running around.
Unplug all the cables carefully and wrap each one separately. Twist ties or Velcro straps work well. Loose cords can scratch the screen or get tangled.
Wipe the screen and frame gently with a microfiber cloth to remove dust or fingerprints. Place the monitor on a flat surface, screen side down, and wrap it in bubble wrap or foam. Tape it in place so it’s snug but not tight. Doing this first makes everything else easier.
Don’t forget the stand. Detach it carefully from the monitor and wrap it in bubble wrap or foam. Put it in a box that fits snugly so it can’t shift around.
Fill any gaps with padding to keep it stable. Tape it securely and label it ‘Monitor Stand.’ That way, when you get to your new place, you’ll know exactly where everything goes.
Cables can get messy if you don’t handle them right. Bundle them neatly so they don’t tangle or twist. Label each one or take a quick picture so you know where everything plugs back in.
Keep them in a separate bag or small box. Don’t toss them in with the monitor itself. That could scratch the screen or damage the connectors. Doing this now will save a lot of headaches later.
Cover the screen with a soft cloth first. Bubble wrap around the whole monitor adds another layer of protection. Corners and edges are the most vulnerable, so give them extra padding.
Foam sheets can add another layer if you have them. Tape everything so it stays in place, but don’t stick tape directly on the screen. Small touches like this can prevent a lot of damage.
Pick a box that is sturdy and just a little bigger than the monitor. Too much space and it will slide; too small and it might get bent. Check that the box is clean and not weak from old labels or dents.
Seal the seams well with packing tape. Mark it ‘Fragile - Computer Monitor’ clearly on several sides. That’s it. Handle with care, and it should arrive in one piece.
