Best Dog Parks in Atlanta | 🐕 List, Tips, Guide & Map

If you and your pup are new to the area, you’re surely on the hunt for a dog-friendly park in Atlanta that you’ll both love. You don’t want to just take them around the same block every day – they need to find friends in their new city too! But, not all parks are created equally. Though there are many playgrounds around Atlanta, it can be harder to find a dog-friendly park in Atlanta. Whether you’re looking for an off-leash dog park in Atlanta or somewhere you can take both the kids and your doggo, we’ve got some great news. Fortunately, there are many Atlanta green spaces that will cater to you and your furry friend’s needs. So next time Fido is begging for some fun, head to one of these great Atlanta dog parks!

Piedmont Dog Park – Best Off Leash Dog Park in Atlanta

Piedmont Dog Park is often ranked as Atlanta’s top dog park, and it’s well deserving. The park offers 3 acres of fenced in, off-leash space in Atlanta for your dog to run around and play. With designated areas for large dogs (>30 pounds) and small dogs (<30 pounds), you’ll never have to worry about your pup getting hurt or hurting other dogs. This Atlanta dog park also has paved trails for easy walking, so you can get some exercise in. Piedmont Dog Park is extremely well-maintained and equipped with benches, restrooms, water spickets, and free doggie bags. There are even concession stands on the weekends for both owners and pets! The people who go here truly care about their pets and this park, and it’s easy to see once you arrive.

As part of the Piedmont Park Conservancy, Piedmont Dog Park is very well maintained. Because of this, it’s important to note that Piedmont Dog Park has some rules that must be followed. No dogs in heat or under 16 weeks of age are permitted in the park, you must clean up after your pet, and you also need to ensure your dog is not aggressive towards other pets. Also, children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult.

Freedom Barkway Dog Park – Great Park with Big Plans

When residents of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood realized they needed a dog park of their own, they took matters into their own hands. From their need, the Old Fourth Ward Freedom Barkway Corporation was born. The Freedom Barkway Dog Park is a 2-acre expanse that includes two separate areas of play for dogs under 20 pounds and over 20 pounds. Since the park is relatively new, there are no amenities beyond seating, so don’t forget to bring water and baggies! What’s nice about this park is that the dogs have freedom to roam. Just because there aren’t many amenities doesn’t mean rules also don’t exist. The Old Fourth Ward really cares about their area and pets, and they want to be sure everyone coming to their dog-friendly park are aware that they need to follow general courtesy rules. Be sure to pick up after your pet, ensure that they aren’t aggressive toward other dogs, and respect the space of others. There are plans in the future to expand this park. The park’s board is hoping to include splash pads and water fountains once the money is available. They love to include the community, so the board meets every month and owners are welcome to join the meetings!

You’ll have just as much fun as your pet at Park Grounds! Park Grounds is a top-notch coffee shop that serves breakfast all day, and provides a full bar and WiFi to its human patrons. Park Grounds has an enclosed space for dogs to play while their owners sip and socialize. The food is affordable, and so delicious that it’s a favorite brunch spot for diners without dogs. Enjoy the shade under the park’s large tree, or on the covered patio. Clean-up baggies and water bowls are provided, but you do need to make a purchase at the cafe in order to use the dog park. Keep in mind that the park is on the smaller side and tends to get crowded, so it’s best to get there early. It is unclear what Park Grounds policy on pitbulls is, so if you’re a pitbull owner, it’s best to call ahead and confirm they are permitted in the park.

Fetch Park – Social Spot for Dogs & Owners

It’s true that sometimes the responsibilities of owning a pet can get in the way of your social life. That’s why Fetch Park is such a great option. Founded by Stephen Ochs, who wanted to spend time with his dog and his friends, Fetch Park is a unique, totally full-service place to bring your pet. Located in the Old Fourth Ward, Fetch offers a turfed lawn that resembles a baseball park. This place has it all: there are dog wash stations, cooling stations for pups, as well as TVs and WiFi, and a full menu for owners. Fetch Park even provides on-site “Bark Rangers” that make sure the dogs are interacting well together. There is a $10 fee for a day of play, but monthly and yearly memberships are available for $30 and $275, respectively.

Renaissance Park Dog Park – Best Fenced Atlanta Dog Park for small dogs

This 5.4 acre park, situated in the Fourth Ward West section of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, is the first dog park to serve the neighborhood. Renaissance offers two fully fenced-in play areas for large and small dogs, plenty of shade, benches, and water fountains that operate from March through November. Its location offers fantastic views of Atlanta’s Downtown and Midtown skylines. Some owners complain of trash and nearby homeless people, so although the area is safe, it is best to keep your dog within eyesight in case there are unvaccinated dogs in the park. That being said, most people have an enjoyable time, and this dog park in Atlanta is especially popular amongst those with small dogs.

Atlantic Station Dog Park – Great Dog Park in Atlanta for Small Dogs

The Atlantic Station Dog Park, also called the “Barking Lot,” is a great no-frills option in northwest Atlanta. This small off-leash dog park is comingled, so there is no separation of large and small dogs. The dog park offers dog bags, trash cans, running water, and basic seating for owners. The park has turf grass, which is great for easy cleanup. However, due to the small space that’s provided, this park is considered a better option for smaller dogs who need less space to run.
